Singapore must lead low-carbon fuel initiatives in SEA: Deloitte
By laying the groundwork for robust-low carbon fuel infrastructure.
Singapore must take the lead in advancing low-carbon fuel initiatives in the region as the drive toward net zero intensifies.
According to Deloitte, Singapore can serve as a model for sustainable aviation and strengthen its position as a global sustainability hub by establishing a robust low-carbon fuel infrastructure amidst ongoing issues.
The report noted synthetic fuel production faces high costs and technological uncertainties, with current production heavily reliant on nascent technologies like direct air capture (DAC).
For consumers, synthetic kerosene could increase airline ticket prices by up to 50%, whilst impacts on maritime shipping costs are minimal due to lower fuel cost contributions.
“By laying the groundwork for a robust low-carbon fuel infrastructure, Singapore can set a model for sustainable aviation in the region and strengthen its position as a global sustainability hub,” said Josette Soh, Deloitte Singapore sustainability & climate assurance partner.
“Investing in these advancements now sets the foundation for future economic resilience and sustainable growth."
