Saudi National Bank shines at ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for green spaces
This accolade celebrates SNB’s innovative and impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing green spaces across Saudi Arabia.
Saudi National Bank (SNB), a leading financial institution in Saudi Arabia, has been honoured with the Green Spaces Award (Parks, Garden, Urban Forests) - Saudi Arabia at the ESGBusiness Awards 2024, a recognition that highlights its exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
SNB has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement. Their flagship initiative, the SNB Mangrove Plantation Project, has been a cornerstone of their green efforts.
By successfully planting 400,000 mangrove trees across various locations, SNB has significantly contributed to the preservation of coastal ecosystems. Mangroves are crucial for maintaining biodiversity, supporting marine life, and mitigating coastal erosion. Their ability to capture carbon dioxide also plays a vital role in combatting climate change. In a remarkable display of collaboration, SNB partnered with the Morooj Foundation which is under the umbrella of National Center for Vegetation Cover Development & Combatting Desertification to further their environmental goals. On the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, they spearheaded a monumental effort to plant 600,000 mangrove saplings along the Red Sea coast and East Coast by end of 2024. This large-scale project underscores SNB's commitment to restoring coastal ecosystems and conserving biodiversity. The partnership highlights the power of collective action in achieving significant environmental milestones, setting a precedent for other organisations to emulate.
Beyond their mangrove efforts, SNB has made strides in water management with their Greening Mosques project. By implementing advanced water management systems in 60 mosques, the bank has repurposed greywater from ablution processes to irrigate and nurture over 10,000 trees around mosque premises. This initiative, with a target to extend to 100 mosques by the end of 2024, is a testament to SNB’s alignment with the Saudi Green Initiative.
The project effectively reduces water wastage and promotes sustainable resource use whilst improving air quality and creating valuable green spaces. It also integrates cultural and religious practices, fostering a community-centric approach to sustainability.
The Greening Mosques project, which started in 2022, not only focusses on environmental benefits but also incorporates educational campaigns to raise awareness about sustainability.
