RHB Bank clinches ESGBusiness Awards for social empowerment programme

RHB #JomBiz aims to uplift Micro SMEs through capacity building and mentorship.

Financial services company RHB Banking Group bagged the win in the Social Inclusion and Equal Opportunities Award - Malaysia category at the ESGBusiness Awards for its social-economic empowerment programme, RHB #JomBiz, which is in line with the group’s sustainability strategy and roadmap. 

The programme is aimed at uplifting and empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) who were impacted by the pandemic through capacity building and mentorship, including the provision of seed funding to help them restart and boost their businesses.

The company has also identified the need to offer a more sustainable and long-term supplement to equip MSME owners with entrepreneurial and emotional well-being knowledge to prepare them to be financially resilient and mentally and emotionally strong enough to sustain their income.

It has provided MSMEs with holistic entrepreneurship training, business strategy, and finance knowledge under the programme to improve their business growth. Participants with outstanding business pitches would receive seed funding of up to RM15,000.

This programme is open to all Malaysian MSME business owners aged 18 years and above with an annual sales turnover of not more than RM300,000 and from the underserved community, such as those who are from families with a total household income of RM5,000 and below, single parents, or people with disabilities.

Whilst access to financing remains one of the biggest challenges faced by MSMEs, #JomBiz serves as the passport for these MSME entrepreneurs to get connected with the bank and stay on its radar for future support or assistance even after the completion of the programme. 

RHB has kicked off #JomBiz in line with its objectives laid out in the Together We Progress 2024 (TWP24) corporate strategy, which is aimed at driving the group’s ambition to be a leader in service excellence.
