Net-zero standard for energy sector slated for pilot testing
Applications open until middle of January 2026.
Power sector firms are being invited to take part in the pilot of the Science Based Targets initiative's (SBTi) draft net-zero standard for the industry.
"Pilot testing is a critical step in the SBTi's standard development process to ensure the final standard is practical for businesses whilst scientifically robust and credible – helping accelerate climate action in line with global net-zero goals," SBTi said when it launched the pilot.
"Participating companies will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of science-based target-setting for the power industry, demonstrate credible climate leadership to customers, investors, and regulators, and gain early insights into methodologies that will guide future target validation."
The new standard will replace the SBTi's Quick Start Guide for Electric Utilities, expanding the scope to cover a wider range of activities and emission sources across the energy value chain.
Interested firms spanning power generation, transmission and distribution, storage, trading, and retail can apply until 16 January 2026.
