Savills Singapore nabs two wins at ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for newly-formed sustainability team
It has successfully tackled a retrofitting project that has brought drastic energy reduction and inspiration to expand green initiatives.
Global real estate services provider Savills Singapore took home two major titles at the prestigious ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for its newly established Energy and Sustainability Management (ESM) team that is pioneering a new era of sustainable real estate in Singapore.
Launched in January 2023, the ESM team has solidified itself as leaders in retrofitting older buildings to enhance energy efficiency and align with the Green Plan 2030. Amongst its recent successes is the tackling of the retrofitting project of Singapore Pools Building, which has initially suffered from high energy use and an outdated monitoring system.
The Savills team has implemented a holistic data-driven approach to identify inefficient chillers and data centre cooling. Upgrading chillers and implementing a SMART Green Dashboard for real-time monitoring has resulted in a 20% energy reduction and a Green Mark Platinum SLE certification for Singapore Pools Building.
At the same time, its upgraded BMS system has streamlined Singapore Pools' building management. The continuous monitoring and optimisation of the live building enhanced its immediate energy efficiency. By analysing collected data, the company is developing intelligent building automation to further reduce energy consumption and improve overall building performance.
This long-term approach demonstrates its commitment to sustainable operations. The success of this project has transcended initial goals. The project has inspired Singapore Pools to further their green initiatives after witnessing the significant improvements in the sustainability achieved through its work.
These additional efforts have included the transition to LED lighting fixtures, implementing rainwater harvesting systems, and even exploring the integration of intelligent technologies such as artificial intelligence to make their system more efficient.
At the core of the success of Savills’ ESM team is its innovative ENSURE Report, which has been introduced to educate non-technical personnel on the significance of energy efficiency, the benefits of sustainable practices, and the value proposition associated with Green Mark certifications, in recognition of the effectiveness of having a well-informed client base.
By demystifying complex technical information, ENSURE has since received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our clients, highlighting its effectiveness in fostering a culture of sustainability awareness within organisations.
“Savills’ ESM team’s success in retrofitting the Singapore Pools Building exemplifies our ability to transform older buildings into sustainable havens. ENSURE, our client education programme, empowers organisations to prioritise sustainability. By leveraging data analysis, we deliver real-time monitoring and long-term efficiency gains, propelling Singapore towards a greener future,” the company said.
Savills Singapore bagged the Energy Efficiency Retrofit Programme Award - Singapore and the Sustainable Infrastructure Award - Singapore for this achievement.
