Muang Thai Life Assurance ramps up insurance inclusiveness with several initiatives
It aims to make Thailand a top destination for medical services for people from all walks of life.
Thailand is ranked as one of the top destinations for medical tourism given its outstanding service. However, this high standard does not reflect the experience of many Thai people who must arrive at public hospitals before dawn to secure a chance to see doctors in the afternoon.
In addition, whilst the government's universal coverage scheme is publicly praised, its sustainability is in question due to the consistently sharp rise in medical inflation each year.
As one of Thailand's top insurers, Muang Thai Life Assurance sees the urge to do everything it can to raise awareness about the importance of health and ensure that all Thais have easy access to quality healthcare — especially the most vulnerable populations: the uninsured, uninsurable, and uninterested.
This has led the insurance company to launch several initiatives that bridge this gap. For the uninsured, Muang Thai Life has launched its comprehensive health insurance Dhealth Plus and its unbundled critical illness product Dcare.
Dhealth Plus allows customers to vary their claim limit and deductible threshold across 20 combinations. The deductible feature makes premiums much more affordable and works seamlessly with the customer’s existing coverage. On the other hand, Dcare lets customers choose from only one and up to 88 illnesses based on their needs and budgets, with the smallest package costing less than THB1 per day.
Meanwhile, to support the uninsurable group, the insurer has extended the maximum entry age for its flagship products to 90 years old, with the option to renew until 99 years old — the highest entry and renewal ages in Thailand. It has also launched a dynamic pricing diabetic product. Premium rates are dynamic and adjusted based on the level of HbA1c checked every six months, encouraging healthier behaviours amongst customers.
To meet the desires of the uninterested group, Muang Thai Life aims to implicitly embed insurance awareness in their daily activities. This is going to be done through its mobile app MTL Fit, which makes being healthy easy and fun.
Both customers and non-customers can use MTL Fit to track their health score based on their lifestyle, compete with other users in exercise challenges, or consult nutrition experts for their healthy diets. Users who eventually become customers can enjoy up to a 15% premium discount based on their health score on the app.
The company has also partnered with leading hospitals in Thailand to offer cancer screening test warranties. Customers undergoing cancer screening at these hospitals receive free one-year cancer insurance, ensuring test credibility and increasing insurance awareness.
Muang Thai Life has integrated the mission of healthcare improvement into its business philosophy and daily operations to solve issues within the healthcare system. This major accomplishment has brought them the Health Equity and Inclusion Award - Thailand recognition from the highly sought ESGBusiness Awards 2024.
“Collaborating with other industry players, healthcare providers, and regulators ensures that everyone, not just a chosen few, has access to world-class medical care in Thailand,” the company said.
The prestigious awards programme celebrates companies that are leading the way in building a sustainable future. It also highlights businesses that demonstrate outstanding commitment and achievement in environmental, social, and governance practices.
