PT Permata Graha Nusantara wins at ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for sustainable infrastructure
The subsidiary of Pertamina Gas Subholding strengthens eco-conscious tourism with its energy-efficient tropical building in Borobudur.
PT Permata Graha Nusantara won Sustainable Infrastructure Award - Indonesia in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025. The recognition was given for Truntum Gasblock Borobudur, an energy-efficient tropical tourist destination located in Karangrejo, Magelang, Central Java.
Built in 2022, Truntum Gasblock Borobudur sits in front of Bukit Menoreh and was designed to minimise environmental impact whilst supporting local development. The site features a naturally ventilated restaurant and meeting facilities surrounded by rice fields, offering a sustainable tourism destination that conserves the natural landscape. Construction achieved near-zero contour modification, preserving both the economy and ecology of the area.
The facility makes extensive use of passive design. With a Window-to-Wall Ratio of 57% and a Natural Lighting Area of 80%, it reduces reliance on artificial energy. These measures establish the site as a model for energy-efficient tropical buildings, aligning with Indonesia’s roadmap to net-zero emissions. PT Permata Graha Nusantara also integrated social sustainability into the project by partnering with the Karangrejo Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes).
Truntum Gasblock Borobudur attracts both domestic and international visitors, positioning itself as one of the few high-end culinary destinations in the Borobudur area. In 2024, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, represented by the Director General of New & Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Prof. Dr. Eng. Eniya Listiani Dewi, B.Eng, M.Eng, IPU, visited the site to discuss the role of energy-efficient buildings in sustainable development. The visit also included representatives from the British Embassy Jakarta, USAID, Green Building Council Indonesia, and IREEM, reinforcing the project’s value as a reference point for best practices in infrastructure and design.
By embedding energy efficiency and community collaboration into its business model, PT Permata Graha Nusantara demonstrates how infrastructure projects can deliver measurable environmental and social benefits. The project serves as an example of how sustainable design principles can support eco-tourism, empower local economies, and advance Indonesia’s broader transition to cleaner energy.
