Eupe aspires to build homes that nurture individual well-being
New directions in sustainability infuses all its residential projects.
The 21st century faces growing physical and mental challenges brought about by daily life becoming more pressured and frenetic. This is creating a growing disconnection and fragmentation between and within individuals, particularly in fast-growing Asian cities, where urban development is being driven at a significant pace.
Despite these growing challenges and the potential for property developers to help address them through more mindful design, the property industry remains overly driven by short-term considerations and metrics. This leads to sacrificing building design quality that might otherwise be used in innovative ways to sustain the long-term well-being of residents.
The result is often a repeat of box-type high-rise residential design which contributes to individual disconnection and a lack of community belonging or identity, as well as property design originating in cold climates of the European or Northern Hemisphere, which is not suited to tropical or sub-tropical climates.
This has led to emerging Malaysian property developer Eupe Corporation Berhad elevating the role of property development in addressing the human side of social sustainability in all its projects.
Eupe’s social sustainability approach is ultimately motivated by the basic question that if one cannot sustain their well-being or connect with others, how can one sustainably nurture the natural environment around them?
As such, the corporation has developed four social sustainability principles to incorporate into all its residential property projects, with the key objective of using property design in innovative ways to improve and sustain a person’s physical health as well as state of mind. These principles work both separately and together to maximise how built environments positively define how residents of Eupe projects live their lives, by helping to re-establish connections with nature, with each other, as well as the surrounding community.
The four principles are:
- Healthy air – using innovative building design to bring in and circulate natural, health-giving air.
- Green community – designing expansive green spaces and inspired landscaping to facilitate reconnection with nature.
- Iconic design – utilising distinctive and inspiring architecture as public art to both inspire and create community identity.
- Smart connectivity - using both physical and digital spaces to connect residents with conveniences as well as each other.
“By setting new sustainability directions and by demonstrating how this approach translates into market success - we aim to encourage the property development sector in Malaysia more generally to adopt a similar design approach,” Eupe says.
This approach has experienced considerable market success since Eupe entered the Kuala Lumpur property market in 2016. Its first two projects in the capital have won a total of seven national design/property awards. They have also been highly successful in terms of sales, largely due to key points in design, lifestyle and sustainability differentiation.
Eupe’s impactful philosophy behind the development of green buildings has been recognised by the ESGBusiness Awards, winning the Healthy Lifestyle Product Award - Malaysia and the Green Building Award - Malaysia category wins.
“We believe that our approach to property development represents new and innovative sustainability directions which the ESGBusiness Awards seeks to highlight and nurture,” the company says.
The prestigious awards programme honours businesses that demonstrate outstanding commitment and achievement in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, as well as those leading the way in building a sustainable future.
