Alibaba Cloud takes home two wins at ESGBusiness Awards
The sustainability platform has been integrated in some of Singapore’s biggest events.
Cloud computing company Alibaba Cloud bagged two major titles at the ESGBusiness Awards for the success of its sustainability platform Energy Expert. The initiative is a manifestation of how cutting-edge technology and a steadfast commitment to sustainability can revolutionise mega events, demonstrating the potential for global impact.
Such capability is evident in the remarkable impact and involvement of the initiative in the Olympic Esports Week Singapore 2023. Sustainability has become a central pillar of the Olympic Agenda, and the International Olympic Committee recognises the importance of aligning mega events with sustainability goals.
Following international standards and guidance, Energy Expert played a pivotal role in measuring and analysing the carbon emissions associated with temporary construction for the event. The results were a substantial reduction of 14 tons CO2e achieved by replacing printed signage with digital alternatives, and an additional 10 tons CO2e saved by reusing 50% of event carpets.
Alibaba Cloud's web application for the Olympic Esports Week also engaged the public in understanding the carbon footprint of their daily lives, fostering awareness and action. With 4,792 pledges made, and one in five visitors committing to carbon reduction actions, Energy Expert has catalysed positive change and amplified the message of sustainability.
Meanwhile, Energy Expert’s impact has also extended with iLight Singapore 2023. By analysing carbon emissions at the Lightwave: Turning the Tide event, the platform not only provided actionable insights but also encouraged individuals to take ownership of their sustainability journeys.
The initiative, driven by Alibaba Cloud's AI technologies, generated unique visuals for the 4,199 pledges that will result in the removal of 419.9kg of waste from Singapore's waterways, from the 100g of waste removal for each pledge.
Alibaba Cloud took home the Smart City Award - Singapore and the Waste Reduction Award - Singapore during the awards programme.
