NTUC LearningHub recognised for excellence in sustainability education at ESGBusiness Awards 2024
The company was honoured for its commitment to fostering sustainability education and empowering individuals to contribute to a greener future.
NTUC LearningHub, a leading continuing education and training provider in Singapore, has clinched the Economic Empowerment Award - Singapore and the Excellence Award - Singapore for its innovative and impactful sustainability training programmes.
As businesses worldwide prioritise sustainability, there is a rising need for organisations to understand and implement sustainable practices. NTUC LearningHub has responded by developing specialised courses to equip individuals with the relevant skills they need for in-demand sustainability jobs. By cultivating the green capabilities of their workforce, businesses of all sizes can enhance their operational strengths and maintain competitiveness in an era where countries are transitioning to low-carbon economies.
The company’s award wins highlight its pivotal role in addressing the growing demand for sustainability professionals and equipping individuals with the essential skills to drive sustainable business practices.
NTUC LearningHub has taken a proactive approach to address the sustainability skills gap by offering a comprehensive range of courses and programmes. From the SME Sustainability Series with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to the Certified Sustainability (ESG) Practitioner Programme with the Centre of Sustainability and Excellence (CSE), the organisation has developed programmes that cater to diverse needs and levels of expertise.
One of NTUC LearningHub's notable initiatives is the collaboration with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) on the Sustainability Series for SMEs. This series equips small and medium-sized enterprises with the knowledge and tools to integrate sustainability into their operations, contributing to Singapore's goal of becoming a leading sustainable and liveable city.
“This series equips SMEs with the necessary skills and resources to navigate the complex landscape of sustainability, enabling them to make informed decisions and implement effective and economically sound strategies,” the company said.
Furthermore, the Certified Sustainability (ESG) Practitioner Programme offers a rigorous and transformative learning experience designed to prepare individuals for the crucial role of a Carbon Practitioner. The programme equips participants with the practical frameworks and toolkits needed to lead sustainability initiatives and drive sustainable growth within organisations.
The certification aims to upskill sustainability professionals and equip them with the knowledge and skills required to develop a two-year sustainability plan for a company. Trainees who complete the programme will gain a deeper understanding of sustainability and become credible leaders in the field, equipped to develop critical strategies and devise impactful solutions for their organisation.
Sustainability training series and impactful partnerships, empowering a greener workforce and future
NTUC LearningHub's commitment to sustainability is evident in its programmes such as the Zero Waste Manager course and the National Electric Vehicle Specialist Safety (NESS) course, which address specific sustainability challenges and contribute to community needs whilst supporting Singapore’s transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.
“Supported by the National Environment Agency, the Zero Waste Manager course impacts companies and organisations seeking to comply with waste management regulations and integrate sustainable waste management practices into their operations. As one of the newly launched courses from NTUC LearningHub, it has been well-received as it aims to empower a greener workforce and future for Singapore,” the company stated.
Additionally, NTUC LearningHub’s partnership with BYD Singapore led to the launch of the first fully dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) simulator facility, meant to augment NTUC LearningHub’s EV courses (e.g. NESS) and help trainees acquire skills in safe maintenance and inspection of parts through hands-on practice, thereby enhancing the quality of training on EV maintenance.
“We also launched the Certified Event Sustainability (CES) programme in partnership with the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) in November 2023. This is Singapore’s first sustainability-focussed MICE and event professional certification,” NTUC LearningHub said. CES professionals will assist their organisations in achieving the MICE Sustainability Certification (MSC), which is endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
By offering a diverse range of sustainability training programmes, NTUC LearningHub is empowering individuals to become sustainability leaders and drive positive change. The organisation's recognition at the ESGBusiness Awards 2024 underscores its dedication to fostering a sustainable future through education and skills development.
