Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur bags ESGBusiness Awards for community initiatives
It has launched various projects that aim to build better relationships with the public.
Malaysia-based private hospital Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur brought home the win in the Community Health Outreach Programme Award - Malaysia category at the ESGBusiness Awards for its various projects that are aimed towards building and maintaining a better relationship with the community.
Amongst these projects is the A-Heart for A-Heart charity programme, which offers medical intervention to children from low-income families suffering from congenital heart diseases. With the disease being the most common birth defect, it usually requires corrective surgery. The team comprising paediatric cardiologists, paediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, and rehabilitation therapists provides the best care to patients.
Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s programme has also reached many corporate organisations, which have all come forward and contributed towards the campaign. Over the past 26 years, the A-Heart for A-Heart charity programme has benefitted more than 1,450 children.
“We will continue to play an active role in providing medical services to ensure children lead a normal life,” CEO, Ms. Hoo Ling Lee said.
Another one of its projects is the GlenBuddy programme, which is catered for employees to reach out to the community. The hospital believes that education efforts and healthcare services should not only be centred on paying patients, but also on the development of the community as a whole. Gleneagles Hospital team organises health screening, educational programmes, blood donations, and partnerships with NGOs to reach out to those in need.
Due to the similarity of the objectives, many have come forward to help partially fund the medical expenses of those who are from the lower socioeconomic group.
The hospital has also launched the Sebakul Kasih project, which collects donations from hospital staff and doctors and distributes them to those in need. Currently ongoing on an ad hoc basis, the funds will be raised when the staff receives an SOS call from the public.
“The company emphasises the significance of individual contributions towards society, stating that each effort made would result in a collective improvement, benefiting everyone involved,” Hoo said.
