Eupe Corporation bags 2nd year win at ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for high-rise development
The company is designing sustainable buildings with nature and well-being in mind.
Real estate developer Eupe Corporation took home the Healthy Lifestyle Product Award - Malaysia category win at the coveted ESGBusiness Awards 2024 for the second year in a row. This year, the award goes to its high-rise development Est8 @ Seputeh, which has redefined the architectural and visual character of the Seputeh precinct with various dreamland sculptures of dolphins, butterflies, and mushrooms.
Located in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur cityscape, Est8 seeks to elevate the physical and mental well-being of its residents by broadening and utilising environmental and social sustainability frameworks that deploy built form and design to connect residents with their natural surroundings, themselves, and each other to create a distinctive “green community.”
The building’s facade is designed as an urban art gallery, bringing art to a wider audience and giving residents a sense of belonging and connection to their space. The building’s interior is built as functional art, not only inspiring the mind but also uplifting daily activities such as social gatherings, yoga, and strength training. In playgrounds located in the Sky Gardens, sculptures function as holistic child development aids through play.
Est8’s atrium also facilitates passive ventilation, harnessing fresh natural air through the Sky Gardens and cooling the building passively to reduce reliance on artificial air conditioning.
Meanwhile, green walls, vertical greens, a 75-metre canopy walk, a herb garden, and an urban farm on the rooftop all form part of the 8,600 square metres of lush landscaping that covers the overall site area. Varieties of local plants increase the biodiversity of the area, handpicked to attract local pollinators and birds with herbs and vegetables for resident consumption.
For Eupe, the sustainable design goes beyond just the finished product but starts even during construction. In one example, to prevent landslides due to the sloping area and to minimise noise pollution to the surrounding community, a hand-dug caisson method was utilised instead of heavy piling machinery, despite additional costs to Eupe.
As part of Eupe’s sustainability efforts, solar panels are installed for renewable energy generation. Lifts are equipped with AC VVVF drives that store kinetic energy to reduce electricity usage. The development is also equipped with rainwater harvesters for landscape irrigation and common area cleaning, and its swimming pools come with a UV sterilising system that massively reduces reliance on chlorine.
A covered walkway has also been built from Est8 to Mid Valley, one of Malaysia’s largest malls connected to major railway lines, to encourage the use of public transportation and to give back to the community. The development is situated close to hospitals, education centres, shopping malls, major bus stops, and highways to reduce carbon emissions through travel.
To prevent the spread of future infections in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, an active ventilation system has been installed to prevent the spread of viruses through water droplet evaporation from the water closet sewer system. Touchless buttons have been installed into lifts to avoid infection through contact.
Est8 also comes with its own app for residents to book facilities, pay their maintenance fees, or issue QR codes for guest entry – providing three tiers of security, convenience, and eliminating paper usage.
“We believe that our approach to property development and design represents new sustainability innovations for our buyers and the environment beyond what is traditionally offered in the market,” the company said.
