Samsung Malaysia Electronics honoured at ESGBusiness Awards 2025
The company strengthens its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) roadmap with paperless operations, sustainable repair, and e-waste recycling.
Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd (Samsung Malaysia) won Waste Management Award - Malaysia in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for its efforts in reducing paper usage, minimising e-waste, and promoting sustainable consumer practices.
The company’s approach is anchored on three key initiatives: paperless operations, Eco Repair, and the Eco Recycle Box programme. These efforts align with its ESG roadmap, aiming to reduce resource consumption, extend product lifecycles, and encourage responsible disposal of electronic waste.
Through paperless operations, Samsung Malaysia introduced digital solutions such as the e-queue up service ticket to replace printed forms. From 2022 to 2024, the company recorded about 359,298 transactions using paper-free solutions, translating to a saving of 35 trees. The move also streamlined processes for customers whilst reducing costs and material use.
Eco Repair is another initiative that encourages consumers to repair instead of replace, extending the lifespan of devices and reducing electronic waste. From 2022 to 2024, the company facilitated approximately 46,607 mobile repairs and 18,417 television repairs. This shift not only lessened disposal volumes but also helped customers adopt more sustainable consumption habits.
The Eco Recycle Box programme provided convenient e-waste collection points across service centres nationwide. Customers were able to safely discard old mobile devices, tablets, and accessories through the initiative. By the end of 2024, the programme collected 138.68 kg of e-waste, diverting harmful materials away from landfills and into responsible disposal channels.
Together, these initiatives highlight Samsung Malaysia’s holistic approach to waste management, combining innovation, customer engagement, and environmental responsibility to deliver measurable impact and foster a culture of sustainability across Malaysia.
