MR.DIY Philippines wins at ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for job creation
The company brings employment and economic growth to underserved Philippine provinces through store expansion.
MR.DIY Philippines won the Job Creation Award - Philippines in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for its expansion into Samar and Leyte, a move that generated hundreds of jobs and strengthened local economies in underserved and disaster-prone communities.
The company opened 38 stores across the two provinces, creating over 300 direct employment opportunities. Each store generates an average of 8 to 10 full-time jobs, with hiring conducted in close coordination with local government units to ensure fairness and community-based inclusion. Beyond direct jobs, MR.DIY Philippines also supports indirect employment in areas such as construction, logistics, and food services.
Central to its strategy is a strong focus on people development. Employees undergo structured training through the company’s 4Es methodology: Education, Environment, Exposure, and Experience. New hires receive classroom-based learning before gaining practical store experience under the guidance of mentors. For those moving into leadership roles, MR.DIY Philippines introduced a “Shift Supervision” programme covering manpower, materials, operations, and accountability. This approach equips supervisors with both technical and leadership skills.
Sustainable employment is further reinforced by promoting tenured staff to lead new branches, allowing them to serve as trainers and mentors for new hires. This practice ensures operational consistency whilst empowering long-time employees to take on greater responsibility.
The company’s impact is evident in workforce stability. In Leyte, MR.DIY Philippines recorded a 149% retention rate, whilst in Samar, retention reached 74% despite more limited economic opportunities. These figures highlight the company’s ability to foster loyalty and secure livelihoods even in challenging environments.
The expansion also brought essential products closer to communities that previously had to travel long distances for basic goods. With pricing aligned to local purchasing power, MR.DIY Philippines provides affordable access to household needs whilst driving inclusive economic activity. The presence of its stores spurs consumer confidence and encourages further business activity in the region.
