Megaworld Lifestyle Malls wins two awards at ESGBusiness Awards 2025
The mall operator advances sustainable retail and township development with clean energy adoption and smart urban integration.
Megaworld Lifestyle Malls won Renewable Energy Adoption Award - Philippines and Smart City Award - Philippines in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025. The recognition highlights the company’s transition of all its company-owned malls to 100% renewable energy and the development of Iloilo Business Park, Western Visayas’ first fully integrated smart urban township.
Through a partnership with MPower, the retail electricity supply arm of Meralco, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls shifted its 15 lifestyle malls to run entirely on renewable energy from hydro, solar, and geothermal sources. This initiative removes around 100,000 tons of carbon emissions each year, the equivalent of planting over 3.5 million trees. Sites covered by the transition include Uptown Bonifacio, Eastwood City, McKinley Hill, Newport City, Southwoods City, and Iloilo Business Park.
Further reinforcing this commitment, solar panel installations are in progress at Festive Walk Iloilo to complement the existing off-site supply with on-site generation.
At the same time, Megaworld was recognised for Iloilo Business Park, its 72-hectare integrated township in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. The development incorporates the seven pillars of smart city design, with features that promote sustainable mobility, efficient infrastructure, cultural enrichment, and digitally enabled commerce.
The estate is anchored by a transport hub connecting commuters across Iloilo and neighbouring provinces, complemented by walkable paths, cycling routes, and electric vehicle charging stations. Energy-efficient fixtures, LED lighting, and a LEED-certified office tower reduce environmental impact, whilst additional solar systems and a water recovery facility are scheduled for completion in 2025. Waste segregation and recycling programmes extend across retail, office, and public zones.
Iloilo Business Park also serves as a cultural and economic hub, integrating museums, hotels, convention facilities, and retail spaces within a walkable environment. Its business ecosystem supports BPO firms and digital enterprises, positioning Iloilo as a rising regional centre for services and innovation.
