Megaworld bags wins for biodiversity and waste management at ESGBusiness Awards 2025
The company continues to redefine ecological stewardship in Philippine real estate.
Philippine property giant Megaworld Corporation has earned two prestigious accolades at the ESGBusiness Awards 2025, taking home the Biodiversity Conservation Award - Philippines and Waste Management Award - Philippines. These honours highlight Megaworld’s integrated approach to sustainability, anchored in long-term reforestation and innovative waste reduction programmes.
At the core of its environmental strategy is MEGreen, a company-wide initiative that champions ecological stewardship across its developments. Amongst its flagship programmes is Project Tree Point Five Million, which aims to plant 3.5 million native trees by 2035. Launched in 2024, the project has already planted over 324,000 trees—including Narra, Alibangbang, Banaba, and Dao—across more than 1,000 hectares of reforestation landbanks in Batangas, Cavite, Tarlac, Iloilo, Palawan, and Cebu.
Complementing this is SeedQuest, a pioneering effort to preserve native species and restore natural habitats. These initiatives are strengthened by partnerships with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local communities. In Iloilo City, Megaworld’s Adopt-a-Forest programme empowers upland farmers through intercropping cacao with Narra seedlings—yielding harvests that support both livelihoods and biodiversity. Most recently, Megaworld joined forces with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) under the Pag-Alab initiative, promoting volunteerism, conservation, and environmental education.
On the urban front, Megaworld continues to advance its Goal Zero Waste Program, which it piloted in 2023. By the end of 2024, the programme expanded to 13 townships, achieving a 60% reduction in residual waste and recovering nearly 200,000 kilograms of recyclables.
The programme blends infrastructure with strategic collaboration. Amongst the key initiatives under this programme include Trash to Cashback, a recycling incentive scheme for township residents and tenants; partnership with Plastic Credit Exchange for plastic offsetting; partnership with ABS-CBN Bantay Kalikasan for safe hazardous waste disposal; building and deployment of materials recovery facilities (MRFs) for proper waste segregation; converting and processing landscaping waste into mulch for reuse; and continued recycling efforts with local partners to further reduce plastic waste.
All these initiatives reflect Megaworld’s unwavering commitment to helping build sustainable communities—where environmental responsibility is seamlessly integrated into everyday life through strategic partnerships.
