Bridge Data Centres wins at ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for sustainable water management
The company integrates effluent water recycling, rainwater harvesting, and smart metering to cut potable water use.
Bridge Data Centres (BDC) won the Sustainable Water Management Award - Singapore in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025 for its integrated water resilience initiatives at its MY07 campus.
At the site, BDC introduced an effluent water-cooling system that treats effluent water into cooling-grade water using membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology. The on-site plant achieves more than 90% recovery under favourable conditions whilst occupying 30% less physical footprint than conventional systems. This design, developed in coordination with regulatory authorities, reduces potable water consumption and supports uninterrupted uptime in regions with variable water quality.
The solution also enables up to 40% higher cycles of concentration, which further lowers demand for freshwater by maximising the use of recycled water. In addition, the MBR system reduces effluent discharge, improving water sustainability in areas facing scarcity and helping the facility maintain consistent operations despite fluctuations in external supply.
Alongside this, rainwater harvesting systems at MY07 and MY06 Campus 2 provide water for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing, diversifying supply sources and reducing reliance on municipal supply.
Smart water metering, deployed at the building level, tracks real-time consumption to monitor Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) and identify optimisation opportunities.
Together, these measures form a multi-pronged framework that shifts the company’s operations from conventional water use towards circular and adaptive models. By combining effluent water recycling, groundwater sourcing, and rainwater harvesting with active monitoring, Bridge Data Centres ensures flexibility, redundancy, and sustainability in its data centre operations.
