Ayala Land, Inc. wins dual honours at ESGBusiness Awards 2025

The company is recognised for its waste diversion strategies and decarbonisation partnerships.

Ayala Land, Inc. won Circular Economy Award - Philippines and Sustainable Supply Chain Partnership Award - Philippines in the ESGBusiness Awards 2025. The recognition reflects the company’s initiatives to reduce waste, promote recycling, and collaborate with suppliers to lower emissions in its construction supply chain.

Zero Waste to Landfill 2030 programme

In its drive towards a circular economy, Ayala Land, Inc. advanced its Zero Waste to Landfill 2030 programme by diverting 32% of total waste from landfills in 2024. The company expanded the use of construction materials with recycled content and strengthened segregation practices across its developments. Partnerships played a key role, such as with Green Antz, where discarded plastic materials were processed into ecopavers for use in its estates. Similarly, Ayala Land’s construction arm, Makati Development Corporation (MDC), integrated 107 tons of shredded PET plastics into concrete and pavers, whilst Seda Hotels piloted a food waste digester that diverted 25.4 tons of food waste.

Ayala Land, Inc. also demonstrated leadership in plastics management. Collaborations with Green Trident enabled the repurposing of plastics into ecoboards, whilst recycled materials were also used to produce stormwater collection modules and warehouse pallets across its properties. In partnership with Integrated Waste Management, yard waste was converted into energy to help power Seda Hotels’ laundry facilities, highlighting the potential of waste-to-energy solutions.

Decarbonisation pathways agreement

Meanwhile, on the supply chain front, Ayala Land, Inc. and MDC signed an agreement in February 2024 with SteelAsia Manufacturing to collaborate on decarbonisation pathways. Debris from a mall redevelopment project was collected and recycled by SteelAsia, resulting in 208 tons of recovered steel debris remanufactured into rebars. These rebars, produced with recycled content using an Electric Arc Furnace, significantly reduced carbon emissions compared to conventional steel.

By the end of 2024, 24% of Ayala Land, Inc.’s steel purchases came from SteelAsia, consisting of green steel produced with renewable energy. Steel rebars account for nearly half of the company’s supply chain emissions, making this initiative a substantial step in reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. SteelAsia’s Calaca, Batangas plant was independently verified by DNV in March 2025, confirming product carbon footprints 84% lower than traditional steel plants.
