Sandisk Malaysia secures triple recognition at ESGBusiness Awards 2026
Recognition for programme which combined renewable electricity, AI-enabled carbon assessment, and circular manufacturing.
Sandisk Malaysia was honoured three times at the recent ESGBusiness Awards 2026, receiving the Renewable Energy Adoption Award - Malaysia, 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution), the Programme Award - Malaysia, and the Initiative Award - Malaysia for Circular Manufacturing. The recognition was for a programme which incorporated renewable electricity sourcing, automated carbon footprint analysis, and the use of digital technologies to manage energy, water, materials, and waste across manufacturing.
Expanding renewable electricity beyond onsite generation
Sandisk Malaysia developed a carbon-free energy strategy using several procurement routes. Onsite solar formed one component, alongside Malaysia's Green Electricity Tariff (GET) and Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP).
GET provided access to renewable electricity through the national electricity framework, whilst participation in CGPP expanded the company's options to utility-scale generation. This reduced dependence on onsite capacity as the sole source of renewable power.
The longer-term roadmap also incorporates the proposed Direct Power Purchase Agreement (dPPA). Through this combination, the company can draw on different mechanisms as Malaysia's renewable electricity market develops.
Automating product carbon footprint analysis
Sandisk Malaysia also enhanced its Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) capabilities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and scalability of environmental impact assessments across its product portfolio. This enables sustainability insights to be generated more effectively in support of growing customer, business, and stakeholder requirements.
By improving visibility into lifecycle impacts and carbon hotspots, the initiative helps integrate sustainability considerations earlier in product development and operational decision-making. This strengthens data-driven choices across the product lifecycle whilst supporting the company's broader commitment to environmental stewardship and transparency.
Applying digital tools to circular manufacturing
Furthermore, Sandisk Malaysia has advanced its circular manufacturing efforts by integrating sustainability considerations across product design, manufacturing operations, packaging, logistics, and end-of-life management. Through the use of digital technologies and data-driven insights, the company is able to better monitor resource consumption, identify improvement opportunities, and drive continuous sustainability performance enhancements.
The initiative includes efforts to improve material circularity, optimise resource use, reduce waste generation, and promote more sustainable packaging solutions. By embedding sustainability into operational and product decisions, Sandisk continues to strengthen its circular economy journey whilst balancing environmental responsibility with business and customer requirements.
